11th Annual Spring Academy in 2014 

Call for Papers

The Call for Papers for the 11th Spring Academy will be available in August 2013.

How to apply?

To apply for the Spring Academy 2014, please use our online application template.
Applications will be accepted September 1 to November 15, 2013; selections will be made by January 15, 2014.
You do not need to submit a recommendation form, unless you are also applying for our Travel Fund (see below).

Travel Fund

Thanks to the generous support of HCA benefactor Herbert A. Jung, we have a small Travel Fund available to cover travel expenses for participants registered and residing in developing and soft-currency countries. Scholarship applicants will need to document the necessity for financial aid and explain how they plan to cover any potentially remaining expenses.

If you are applying for our Travel Fund, please download this form and mail it to your recommender. Completed forms need to be submitted to springacademy@hca.uni-heidelberg.de.

Who should apply?

International Ph.D. candidates working in different fields of American Studies (History, Literature, Law, Politics, Religious Studies, and Geography) may apply to the HCA Spring Academy.

Though the Spring Academy is especially helpful for Ph.D. students who are at the beginning of their writing phase, projects in different stages of progress are invited.

So far topics presented have included projects on Gender, Identity, Immigration, International Relations, the Cold War, Slavery, Literature, and the History of Sports.
